Welcome to the Shawnee Mission Rotary Club, and I hope that you will be able to visit us.

You may already know that Rotary is the largest service club in the world with over 1.2 million members.  For this coming year, the theme for Rotary will be Rotary Shares.   Our service emphases will be health, literacy, and water.  Many clubs will continue with their successful projects in their communities and internationally.   For 2007-08, we too, will continue to be active in both areas.

Our club is actively engaged in Rotary International (RI) and some of our projects include  ringing bells for the Salvation Army, helping the Johnson County Christmas Bureau distribute food, clothing and gift items to area needy families, purchasing and distributing dictionaries to third graders in area schools (do you remember when you got your first dictionary?), collecting school supplies for children in Iraq, providing scholarships for area high school and college students, developing an Interact Club at Shawnee Mission East High School, and developing the "Amazing Rotary Challenge" (an activity to benefit the Roeland Park Food Pantry).  In addition, our Club has an ongoing commitment to build homes in Aqua Prieta, Mexico for needy families, and we're working on a project to build a water well in Ramada, Kenya (currently, the women walk 12 miles a day for their fresh water supply).

We invite you to visit our Club and discover the many ways that Rotary “makes-a-difference.”  We meet every Wednesday at noon in the Sylvester Powell Community Center in Mission.  Come join us.

     Sincerely,

     Mason Ormsby, President

     2007-2008
